Aluminium Stewardship Initiative certifies Century Aluminum Company’s Grundartangi Iceland operations against ASI Performance Standard
The Aluminium Stewardship Initiative (ASI) has certified the Icelandic aluminium smelter of Century Aluminum Company, Grundartangi Island, against ASI's Performance Standard. This standard covers the responsible production, procurement and management of aluminium. The plant's operations include an aluminum smelter and a foundry, which are powered by hydropower and geothermal energy.
Elysis delivers first carbon-free commercial aluminium batch to Apple
Alcoa-Rio Tinto joint venture Elysis has announced that the first commercial batch of aluminium without any direct carbon dioxide emissions will soon be shipped to Apple Inc. The carbon-free aluminium uses a revolutionary smelting technology, developed by the Alcoa-Rio JV. The batch will be shipped this month from the Alcoa R&D facility in Pittsburgh and be used in Apple products.

EGA celebrates 40 years since start of aluminium production
Emirates Global Aluminium (EGA) looks back on a 40 years history since the first tonne of aluminium was produced in the UAE. Since production began in November 1979 at EGA’s site in Jebel Ali – then known as Dubai Aluminium (Dubal) – the aluminium sector has grown into one of the UAE’s largest industries accounting for 1.4% of the economy and supporting 60,000 UAE jobs. In 2013 Dubal and Emal (founded in 2007) merged to form Emirates Global Aluminium.
