Das brasilianische Bundesgericht hat am 26. September die Produktionseinschränkung gegen die neue DRS2-Deponie von Alunorte zur Entsorgung von Bauxitrückständen (Rotschlamm) aufgehoben. Dies ermöglicht es der Oxidfabrik, die Arbeiten zur Errichtung und Inbetriebnahme der Deponie DRS2 fortzusetzen. Damit endet eine 19 Monate dauernde Produktionseinschränkung bei Alunorte.

Emirates Global Aluminium, the largest industrial company in the United Arab Emirates outside oil and gas, has announced the readiness of the waste management system for its Al Taweelah alumina refinery currently under construction. Production start of the refinery is scheduled for the first half of 2019.
Hydro’s alumina refinery Alunorte has received the suspension of the embargo on the new bauxite residue deposit area (DRS2) from the Brazilian federal environmental agency Ibama. However, the embargo from the federal court system remains in place.
Hydro’s alumina refinery Alunorte in Brazil was granted authorization on 5 October by the federal environmental agency Ibama to utilize its state-of-the-art press filter technology in the processing of bauxite residues, which will extend the life of Alunorte’s DRS1 bauxite residue disposal area and allow the company to continue operations on safe conditions. The authorization follows an announcement by Hydro on 3 October that Alunorte was preparing for full curtailment of its operation due to an embargo on its press filter and the newly developed bauxite residue deposit area (DRS2).
