Mino SpA of Alessandria in Italy reports record order backlog for the past twelve months.
With a wide range of contracts ranging from two-stand hot mills, cold rolling and foil mills, heat treatment lines and slab scalpers in its portfolio, Mino is a true global player in the rolling mill equipment market.
Mino designs and builds complete rolling mill plants. The company has been providing innovation and technology to the metals industry since 1840, and is one of the oldest companies operating in the field of rolling equipment and strip processing lines. Since 1970 Mino has supplied more that 300 rolling mills and processing lines for the aluminium, copper and steel industries. The company is proud of its ‘under one roof’ philosophy and approach – from the mill design through to final commissioning. With mechanical, electrical and process control divisions and a complete suite of proven designs, Mino is capable of offering their clients tailor-made, highly sophisticated rolling mill solutions to meet their production needs.
The versatility of Mino’s technological base is underlined by the following orders:
Two-stand continuous hot rolling mill: In addition of two orders for similar mills for customers in China, Mino has supplied J.W. Aluminum with its first continuous hot rolling mill. Fed from a Hazelett continuous caster, the two-stand hot mill provides high-quality coils, 2,000 mm wide and with a final thickness of 2.5 mm. The mill will be installed in JW’s Mt. Holly plant near Charleston in South Carolina. The project, currently in the process of installation, is expected to be complete in 2020.
Cold rolling mill: Aluminio del Maestre, S.A. (Alumasa), is a Spanish family business specialized in the production of aluminium painted coils using the coil coating technology. The company has recently awarded Mino a contract for the supply of a new 4-high cold rolling mill, which is currently designed in Mino’s technical department in Alessandria. It will be equipped with a coil feeding / recirculation system, side trimmer and scrap chopper, most advanced AGC/AFC controls, including mass flow control. AC motors and drives of the latest generation will provide low maintenance and flexible control of speed and torque.
The new cold rolling mill will process 1xxx, 3xxx, 5xxxx and 8xxx series alloys. Max. entry strip width / thickness are 1,800 mm / 8.0 mm; min. exit strip thickness: 0.15 mm; max. coil weight: 13.5 tonnes; max. rolling force / rolling speed are 1,600 tonnes / 800 m/min.
Universal foil rolling mill: Mino has successfully commissioned an advanced universal foil rolling for a premier client in Italy, Laminazione Sottile. The foil mill, in operation since early 2019, has many advanced features, such as high level coolant control for strip dryness and special process control and automation features for maximum uptime.
Heat treatment and chemical cleaning process line for automotive sheet: Mino has completed the installation of the first process line for the production of automotive sheet to be commissioned in Italy. The client, Profilglass, will also install a state-of-the-art 6-high cold rolling mill in late 2019 to provide the feedstock for the automotive sheet line. The new mill will be connected to a high-bay facility capable of storing up to 400 coils, supplied also by Mino.
Aluminium slab scalper: Mino has also supplied a new slab scalping machine to Profilglass. This machine is a new product from Mino and complements the hot rolling mill. The machine has been in operation since 2018. Clients can now order a scalper and hot mill from Mino as a package.
