Henan Tongren Aluminium Co. Ltd awarded Tenova a new contract for a continuous annealing and chemical pretreatment line for processing aluminium strip.

The line, which is dedicated to process 2xxx, 5xxx, 6xxx and 7xxx aluminium alloys for automotive and aerospace applications, will be supplied to Henan Tongren’s production plant in Sanmenxia, Henan Province, China. This order adds up to over fifteen references in China, North America and Europe.

The new line has a strip width range from 1,000 mm up to 2,650 mm, a thickness range from 0.3 up to 4.5 mm and a process speed of 60 m/min. It will be designed for a production of around 100,000 tonnes a year. The line is equipped with a double unwinding pay off reel and a tailor-made stitcher with automatic spray lubrication. The entry side trimmer is equipped with an integrated scrap chopper. The alkali degreasing section is made by a spray tunnel with a multi-stage cascade rinsing section. Entry and exit loopers are of horizontal type with double winch motorization.

The chemical process starts with an acid tunnel etching section, followed by a no-rinse spray titanium zirconium passivation and a squeegee roll coater for oxylane product for automotive adhesive bonding application.

The exit side includes a tension leveller, a pre-aging furnace, an automatic surface inspection system, a dry lube smelter and a rotary shear. The heat treatment line is supplied by Ebner.

The strip processing line is expected to start production at the beginning of 2021. “This new order confirms Tenova as a reliable partner in processing lines for aluminium thanks to our continuous effort to improve the design and the manufacture of its supply to maximize line availability,” said Nicola Cavero, senior vice-president Italimpianti & Strip Processing.
