First Reduxa low-carbon aluminium in rolled products
Hydro has been certified to supply Hydro Reduxa aluminium as rolled products, extending the low-carbon portfolio.
Reduxa aluminium in rolled products “is an important step for Hydro in expanding our low-carbon aluminium offerings. We believe there is demand in the market for these kinds of products across our key segments,” says Einar Glomnes, executive vice-president for Rolled Products.
DNV GL, an independent classification society, has certified Hydro’s entire process chain, down to finished strip and sheet from the rolling mill in Karmøy, Norway, in accordance with the Hydro Reduxa standard. It defines aluminium with emissions of max 4.0 kg CO2eq/kg Al produced. The world average is 16.7 kg CO2eq/kg Al.
Reduxa low-carbon aluminium made using renewable energy
Hydro Reduxa is made using renewable energy from hydropower, wind and solar, thus reducing carbon emissions compared to aluminium made with fossil energy sources.
The Karmøy rolling mill can deliver coils or tailored sheet, mill-finished or painted, from several alloys, which are most common for building applications. First customer orders have already been placed. In addition to sheet ingot for rolled products, Hydro Reduxa is available in extrusion ingots, foundry alloys and wire rod.
Hydro also offers rolled products with Hydro Circal recycled aluminium, which contains a minimum of 75% post-consumer aluminium scrap.
Hydro and Nordic power cable provider, NKT, have entered into a strategic partnership to develop a low-carbon aluminium power cable value chain for the development of Europe’s renewable energy grid.
Hydro invests in new Spanish aluminium recycler, thus strengthening its position in decarbonizing industries by offering more low-carbon aluminium.
Hydro names four pillars as part of their decarbonization strategy: recycling, carbon capture, HalZero primary aluminium production and the use of renewable energy.
