Sustainability is not just a social trend: political initiatives, increased awareness of environmental and climate protection as well as international agreements and binding targets are setting the direction.

As an energy-intensive industry, the die-casting industry is showing its own initiative in many cases – in production itself, but also in materials procurement. An overview of the industry’s commitment is provided by a sustainability survey among all exhibitors commissioned by Euroguss. As part of the trade fair from 8 to 10 June 2022, visitors can expect the results of the study as well as exciting lectures and a discussion round on sustainability in the foundry industry.

In the energy-intensive die-casting industry, international agreements such as the Paris Climate Agreement and political initiatives such as the Green New Deal are, in addition to the social trend, drivers for more sustainable production and material sourcing. Euroguss captures all facets of the issue with and for the industry.

“We face major challenges in the future – as we did in pre-pandemic times: climate change, supply chain security, skilled labour, just to name a few,” says Laura Therese Heinl, chairwoman of Corporate Sustainability Management from Friedrich-Alexander-Universität (FAU) Erlangen-Nürnberg, who conducted the survey in cooperation with Euroguss. “Sustainable know-how and good, sustainable management is an important building block that can pave the way for us and our companies into this future.”

Die casting and foundry industries are front runners in terms of sustainability

Many players along the process chain are already showing their own initiative, for example in the direction of CO2 neutrality. Ambitious sustainability strategies and mandatory requirements from OEMs and suppliers are also making automotive production increasingly climate-neutral – all the way down the value chain. In order to create an overview of the industry’s commitment, Euroguss has initiated a sustainability study in cooperation with FAU.

“The large Euroguss 2022 sustainability survey has shown: the die casting and foundry industries are much greener than their reputation”, says Christopher Boss, executive director Exhibition at Nürnberg Messe. “There are great front runners from whom everyone can learn something. But there are also common blind spots, which we reveal in the study and which will be presented and discussed at Euroguss.”

The independent study is based on a survey among Euroguss exhibitors. The results on the current status-quo of sustainability in the die-casting industry will be presented at the trade fair on 9 June 2022.

Ecologically, economically and socially sustainable

CO2 emissions are becoming a new control variable in companies. Euroguss understands the term sustainability to mean more than that and offers expert lectures under the motto Reduce, Compensate, Invest, which also address ecological, economic and social aspects as well as best practice. The keynote address will be delivered by Prof. Dr. Matthias S. Fifka, director of the Institute of Economics at the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg, in which companies will learn how to deal with the complexity of the topic of sustainability and create added value through a strategic approach. A panel discussion, a format that already virtually enthralled viewers in January 2022, rounds off the programme.

But the topic of sustainability will also play a major role in the Die Casting Conference as well as on the exhibitors’ stands. With a guided tour on the topic of Innovations and sustainable production solutions for die casting, visitors will additionally receive a compact overview of this topic.
