Amcor has successfully achieved ASI Performance Standard – Material Stewardship Certifications for three of its facilities – two in France and one in Germany – that produce flexible packaging. In addition, full ASI Performance Standard Certification has been achieved by Amcor Flexible’s Rorschach site in Switzerland. The company has already successfully certified its operations in Singen, Germany to the ASI Performance Standard and Chain of Custody Standard.

Aluminium Stewardship Initiative (ASI) announced that Amcor’s facilities in Teningen Tscheulin-Rothal (Germany), Sarrebourg and De Froges (France) have been successfully certified against ASI’s Performance Standard for responsible production, sourcing and stewardship of aluminium with a focus on material stewardship. The production at these sites comprises a broad range of flexible packaging products, including liddings and foils, as well as processes, such as lacquering and printing, embossing and die-cutting. The materials are used in both food and non-food applications.

In addition, Amcor’s Rorschach site in Switzerland has achieved full ASI Performance Standard Certification, which covers semi-fabrication, material conversion and lacquering.

The ASI Certification program was developed through an extensive multi-stakeholder consultation process and is the only comprehensive voluntary sustainability standard initiative for the aluminium value chain. ASI Performance Standard certifications focusing on ‘material stewardship’ address issues such as product design, life cycle assessments, management of process scrap and collection and recycling of products at end-of-life. Full ASI Performance Standard Certification addresses 59 sustainability criteria under three sustainability pillars -- Governance, Environment and Social. The independent, third-party audit of the Amcor facilities was carried out by DNV GL.

Fiona Solomon, Chief Executive Officer at ASI said “We sincerely congratulate Amcor on their latest ASI Certifications for these four additional flexible packaging facilities, following on previous Performance Standard and CoC Standard certifications of their Singen facility. The company’s continuing efforts to certify their operations underscores the importance of responsible production practices in this part of the aluminium value chain and for the packaging sector more broadly.”

Dr Isabelle Jenny, Manager Sustainability for Amcor Flexibles, said “Receiving this certification further recognises Amcor’s commitment to responsible sourcing practices and selection of aluminium raw materials that minimise environmental impact. I would like to thank all the Amcor people involved in obtaining this certification and we are looking forward to strengthening the work with our own suppliers, in order to create end-to-end responsible supply chains.”
